As another year draws to a close here at Revolution Audio, our team are preparing to take a well-earned break over the festive period.
While it may be the opportunity for our crew and engineers to take a bit of rest, the world of events never stops, especially in the run-up to the New Year! As a result, we will still be providing extensive Hire and Production services in the run-up to January, albeit with reduced office opening hours:
We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our customers a very happy and peaceful Christmas. As ever, all of us on the team here love what we do, and it has been an absolute pleasure working with you and delivering services to your events. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! The Revolution Audio Team Yeovil District Hospital has recently moved its “iCare” Annual Award Ceremony to a new venue – The GateWay, Yeovil – and with this came the challenge of finding a new Production Company to take care of all technical aspects for the prestigious event. As one of the leading suppliers in the area, Revolution Audio was ideally placed to turn their event ideas into results. Working with the event planning team over many weeks before the event, we provided full sound, lighting and video systems for the ceremony. On the audio front, we utilised the house system at The GateWay venue, with Nexo PS15 mains, LS1200 Subs and X32 digital console. Additional loudspeakers were provided from our extensive inventory as stage monitors for The Indie Killers, who were due to provide the evening’s entertainment. We also provided a substantial selection of high-quality microphones, alongside the new Wireless Microphone Installation at The GateWay, fully specified and commissioned by Revolution Audio. Wireless relay of the event to the foyer area was also provided, using a QSC K10 active loudspeaker, and Sennheiser EW Series transmitters and receivers. This creative solution perfectly met the needs of the client, without the need for unsightly cable runs from the Control Room. Moving onto the lighting, we deployed six Chauvet Rogue M2 LED Wash Moving Heads on the truss, which – thanks to their punchy beam and versatile features – were used for both general room and stage wash, but also for effects during the band performance. On the stage, two Martin Mac 250 Entours were used for gobo projection and additional effects lighting. Three ETC Source 4 Juniors were deployed along the lighting truss to give total control over the lighting of the lectern, awards and band areas on stage. Around the room, we utilised six Chauvet FreedomPar LED Uplighters to bring the pillars of the venue to life. These tiny, wireless fixtures truly outperformed their size, and provided a punchy light to bring significantly more depth and life to the room setup. We also worked closely with the organisers on how to provide the best first impression to their guests from outside the venue. Indeed, we suggested a full external uplighting system with colour chase options. For this, we deployed four Showtec M800 LED Fixtures with IP Rated Covers, and finished the look off with two more Chauvet FreedomPars to frame the entry doors. All fixtures were controlled via Chamsys MagicQ software, and all LED Fixtures were programmed with the client’s specific RGB colour codes, to ensure a truly consistent look throughout. Finally, we provided a video system including live video relay to the installed projection system, as well as presentation management and professional cueing software. The event was a clear and shining example of Revolution Audio’s ability to deliver true excellence in all aspects of event production, through working closely with clients and sharing our own expertise and creativity to create truly special and memorable events. This year saw the second holding of the “Transforming a Generation” Conference in Exeter, Devon; A collaboration between TAG and South West Youth Ministries. With a focus on high quality communication and an aspiration for excellence in all they do, the team turned to Revolution Audio to provide both equipment and engineering to this dynamic and expanding event.
Held at Exeter’s “River Church”, we utilised the existing, installed PA System and X32 Digital Console, but substituted numerous elements from our own stock to improve both quality, coverage and flexibility. The specification from the organisers stated that one of the worship sets would be held “In The Round”, and so we immediately knew that additional speaker systems would be required. Our ever-popular and versatile QSC K10s were once again specified, and for the more traditional, stage-led worship sets performed superbly on frontfill duty, with individual time alignment, as well as Parametric and Graphic EQs provided to smoothly integrate them with the house system. Indeed, members of the Church’s house Media Team commented immediately on the excellent consistency and overall quality of sound, even before the tuning of the system was complete! Events held in the centre of a room always provide high levels of technical challenge, but at Revolution Audio, we strive in these situations. Indeed, we have in the past provided large-scale systems for events “In the round” in venues with capacities up to 1000. From a purely technical perspective, the optimum system is one with at least 8 main speakers to cover all sides, firing outwards from the centre. But with the small size of TAG’s venue, plus tight setup times and understandable budget constraints, we opted for a simpler system, moving the K10s to the rear of the room, and resetting our system settings to fire the sound in from all sides. While this created the risk of phase cancellation and “comb filtering”, skilful aiming of the system, along with acute attention to detail in the tuning led to an incredibly smooth and even sound in all parts of the listening area, while maintaining absolutely clear sightlines. Indeed, numerous members of the conference team commented on both the quality of the system, and how it still allowed the close, intimate nature of the session to be maintained. During all the worship sets, the audience experience was further enhanced by our attention to keeping stage levels low. By deploying Behringer’s P16 Personal Monitor System, all musicians were able to mix their own In Ear levels, leaving Revolution Audio’s engineer Joel Nichols to fully focus on the sound for the attendees. On stage sources were captured by Revolution Audio’s ever-expanding stock of quality microphones, with top models from Audix, Shure and Sennheiser picking up a range. Staff from both TAG and SWYM were highly complementary of both the quality of sound and our attitude throughout the two day conference. As true specialists in the Worship sector, we look forward to working with both teams on many more successful events in the future! Buoyed by the massive success of their launch event in 2014, the team from VDubs In The Valley - Shropshire's latest gathering for fans of the iconic brand - returned to Revolution Audio to provide full production for 2015's "Second Coming". Once again, their trust was well placed with our team providing three days of top-quality equipment and engineering to the fast growing event.
Organiser Garry Aulton originally approached Revolution Audio based on our previous standards of work in and around Shropshire, and has been loyal since then, safe in the knowledge all of his festival's audio needs are in safe hands with our team, freeing him up to oversee the overall running of his event. This year was no exception, with Revolution Audio providing equipment and crew for all three days of the event. Friday's opening day saw a compact system of QSC K10s and HK Audio Projector subwoofers deployed into a marquee venue for both playback and vocal music, With limited get-in times and a small space to work with, we deployed an Allen and Heath Qu-16 Digital Console for control, remotely mixed from the flexible Qu-Pad iPad application. Efficient planning and confident crew ensured the system was ready to go in record time, and the quality of the sound was praised by organisers and visitors alike. As with the 2014 event, Saturday saw a packed line-up of live music from 12:00pm, right through until midnight. Sunday also saw live music performances, as well as the "Show and Shine" vehicle competition. Once again, planning and preparation ensured that we could meet the challenges of a small stage area and tight changeover times. HK Audio Projector was deployed as the main FOH system, and this year was supplemented by an additional pair of auxillary subs, as well as QSC K10s on frontfill duty. Coverage and consistency was truly impressive across the audience area, achieving an even fuller sound than last year, whilst also providing greater control and predictability across the frequency spectrum. FOH Mixing was performed using a Soundcraft Si Compact 32, connected to the stage via a pair of dug-in CAT5 lines, with full redundancy in the link to allow uninterrupted operation should one cable have become damaged. Six ways of wedges were mixed from the Stage using the Qu-16 console redeployed from Friday's setup, with the fast interface and ample processing (including full Graphic EQ on all outputs) ensuring changeover times were kept to a minimum. Indeed, members of various and complimented Revolution Audio Monitor Engineer James Doney on both the quality of on-stage sound, as well as his rapport and helpful, positive attitude. Capturing the performances were a large collection of microphones from our ever-expanding locker, with models from Audix, Shure and Sennheiser across drum, instrument and vocal duties. We also provided full power planning and distribution for both stage areas across the three days of the festival. Production Management and FOH Engineering for the event was performed by Joel Nichols, with our newest recruit Noah Peet joining for his first festival with us, assisting with Patch, Stage Management, assisting James Doney on Monitors, and operating kettles! Once again, attendance at the event followed 2014 by exceeding expectations, and plans are in place for a further-expanded event in 2016. The quality of both service and sound provided by Revolution Audio has already secured our involvement for another year, and we are excited to work with the VDubs team well into the future, working with them to grow their event and ensure its success for years to come. After Yeovil teenager Callum Denman was tragically lost to a car accident last year, Yeovil's Youth Council opted to host a concert in his honour at Yeovil's GateWay venue, in order to both remember him and further raise awareness of road safety. With our strong rooting in the area and reputation for top-quality production, Revolution Audio was proud to supply both equipment and engineering to this significant and memorable event. We deployed a substantial audio system in order to fill the 700-capacity venue, and also arranged additional alterations as well as operation of the venue's in-house lighting system. On the audio side, stacks of HK Projector were deployed as the main system, amply filling the space with tremendous punch and throw. Coverage was further improved by the deployment of a pair of QSC K10s as Frontfills. Despite the already powerful and far-reaching low end present in the Projector system, we opted to go even further by using an Aux Send to drive a centre pair of Nexo LS1200 enclosures. The individual EQ, processing and per-channel level control provided tremendous flexibility and allowed the additional sub-bass to be precisely dialled in. On stage, eight ways of wedges were provided using a mixture of DB Technologies and RCF enclosures, with an additional ESP Audio 18" Subwoofer deployed alongside the drum wedge for further low end extension. The microphone selection includes various high-end models from Shure, Sennheiser, Audix and Audiotechnica, along with BSS DI Boxes. At Front of House, our Soundcraft Si Compact 32 once again lived up to its reputation as the ideal console for events with fast changeovers and tight time pressures. Sound checks were extremely swift, and changeover times kept down - in some cases - to little over a minute. This was in no doubt also down to the tremendous efficiency and professionalism of Revolution Audio's crew, both of whom received praise for their efforts in bringing the event together so smoothly. Revolution Audio offers top-quality audio production for events of all sizes; from outdoor concerts, acoustic nights, weddings, corporate events and theatrical productions. We also offer equipment hire, live recordings and consultation. Get in touch to find out more and discuss your needs with us. I've never heard sound setup and sorted out so on point - awesome job. Paul Lewis, Performer Every year, students from the "Sherborne Cluster" - a partnership of primary schools from villages surrounding the Dorset town - take to the stage in Yeovil in a showcase of music and singing. And for the last few years, Revolution Audio has been on hand to provide top quality audio production, and a memorable evening to all involved.
Held at The GateWay in Yeovil - where our quality of work has seen us appointed as the exclusive supplier of audio and visual services - we utilised the best of the in-house system, as well as providing more specialised components to bring the highest levels of production the event has ever seen. We used the in-house PA system, consisting of flown Nexo PS15s and ground-stacked Nexo LS1200 Subwoofers, alongside the installed Behringer X32 digital console. The flexibility in the X32 routing options - Particularly in the assignment of EQs (of both the Parametric and Graphic variety) proved invaluable for this event. Micing up groups of children - many of whom have never performed on stage before - can often be difficult, but our team rose to the challenge with a top-class selection of overhead microphones. On the outer edges of the stage, AKG 414s were deployed, while in the centre, a more discrete "crossed pair" of Audix ADX-51s were used. Vocal groups were also present off to the sides of the main stage; the larger of which was captured by a "crossed pair" of SE Electronics SE1-As, while an Audiotechnica Pro 37R captured the smaller of the groups. All microphones benefited from a substantial "ringing out" using the processing available on the X32 console, which allowed a higher level than ever previously achieved, while maintaining outstanding clarity and quality. One song also featured a solo vocal part, and when our team suggested the possibility of capturing this with a discrete earset microphone, school staff were hugely excited about what could be achieved. We deployed a truly top-class DPA 4066 with Sennhesier EW300 G3 Wireless system, and the results spoke for themselves with a tremendously natural, yet warm and full sound. Indeed, many parents afterwards approached our team to ask how the sound was even achieved, so discrete was the system. One even thought that a backing track was being played, and was amazing to hear such a quality sound was being captured live! We also provided lighting design and control for the event using Chamsys MagicQ software, following a full renewal of all lighting gels at the venue. Our team received numerous compliments from both staff and parents for the professionalism and efficiency we demonstrated throughout the rehearsals and performance, and we are proud to have been part of creating such a memorable evening for all involved. In line with the 2015 General Election, the churches of Yeovil recently came together to organise a large-scale hustings event for the benefit of the local community. Using the 700 seat venue of Yeovil Community Church (The GateWay), the team turned to Revolution Audio for specialist audio production. With events such as hustings, we knew that numerous additional factors had to be considered above and beyond those for more conventional live events. For example, the microphones deployed had to be capable of picking up users often not accustomed to proper “mic technique”, while also maintaining high levels of gain before feedback to amplify quiet voices in a large spaces. Sightlines were a key consideration, as was the ability to provide external live and recorded feeds to a radio station for broadcast at a later date. We made use of the in-house system at The GateWay, incorporating Nexo PS15 mains and LS1200 sub-bass units. Due to the seating layout for the event, we also deployed two RCF Art 310 cabinets on stage with individual GEQ and time alignment applied across the system. In the Control Room, the in house Behringer X32 console was used. We knew that speech quality and intelligibility was the single most important challenge for this event, and to achieve that we deployed six Neumann KM150 microphones to the main table. With the hyper cardioid pickup of the AK50 (attached to the KM100 preamplifier) distance pickup was strong, while rejection off sound from other candidates was also excellent. In addition to this, a 31-band Graphic EQ was inserted onto each microphone channel, enabling full “ringing out” and further improved gain-before-feedback. All of this together provided clear and transparent sound to the full-house audience, with numerous members of community approaching our team after the debate to comment on how superior the sound quality had been compared to events they had attended in the past. Finally, knowing that event was generating substantial local interest, and that local radio stations were keen to use snippets of the debate for their news broadcasts, we provided a full multi-track recording of the event using Logic Pro X, offering the very greatest flexibility to broadcasters requiring a record of the event. Revolution Audio offers Production Services for events of all types, including concerts, corporate events, worship conferences, weddings and theatrical productions. Beyond this, we also offer Equipment Hire, Live Recordings and System Consultancy. Get in touch with us today to discuss the needs of your next event with us. |
