The youth of Yeovil’s Elim Pentecostal Church made their stage debut this May, with the first public performance of their new theatre and performing arts group. Building on a long standing relationship with the team at Elim, Revolution Audio was selected to provide full audio production for three days on site.
While the Elim venue may be small, its curved walls and hard surfaces make acoustics notoriously challenging. With this in mind, we turned to the smooth sound and predictable coverage of QSC K10s for a compact, unobtrusive FOH solution. With no live band and only low level sound effects and playback needing any low end extension, we connected the in house subwoofers (already installed in custom stage cutouts) to a subgroup output on the FOH console, giving maximum control where it was needed. Indeed, before the system had even had any tuning applied at all, staff at the venue were complimenting the sound quality of the system. And on the subject of mixing, our Soundcraft Si Compact has become a firm favourite for theatrical work thanks to its fast layout, dedicated cue buttons, and comprehensive show management systems. Once again, this was deployed and connected to the stage by a MADI CAT5 Digital Snake. Lead characters were equipped with discrete headset microphones, running into eight Sennheiser EW300 G3 wireless systems. While the receivers were located at the FOH mix position (utilising antenna distribution and a pair of paddle antennas), we utilised a wireless network and two copies of Sennheiser Wireless Systems Manager to enable a second technician to monitor the systems from the dressing rooms using a laptop. This local network was also used to enable a FOH to Stage local instant-messaging system, working alongside radio comms. All of this enabled a standard of production value previously thought unobtainable by the Elim team. For characters not using headset microphones, three industry-standard Crown PCC-160 floor microphones were deployed, with BSS Graphic EQ applied to each mic individually to maximise gain-before-feedback. The production was considered a tremendous success, attracting sell out crowds for both performances, and already discussions have turned to the next shows, and we look forward to being involved again! Revolution Audio offers full production services across the UK from our Somerset base, and here in the south-west we are becoming exceptionally well known for our work on theatrical productions of all scales. Our attitude, commitment and equipment make us an ideal choice for performers of all levels. Above this, we also offer equipment hire, live recordings and consultancy. Easter is upon us, and we'll be operating slightly reduced opening hours over the Bank Holiday Weekend:
Have a great weekend everyone! Revolution Audio has recently been out on the road with Christian rock band Cenacle, as part of the “Battle For Your Soul” Tour. As one of the newly appointed audio suppliers for the tour dates held in southern England, we have already followed the band and their message of hope to shows in London and Portsmouth. We put together a full audio production package for the shows consisting of a Soundcraft Si Compact 32 Digital Console, HK Audio Projector FOH System, as well as QSC and DB Technologies Monitoring systems (supplemented by IEM Feeds). Full power distribution up to 63A was deployed to cope with any venue, and give maximum capability and flexibility in the often unpredictable world of touring. On stage, the high energy performances were captured by a wide variety of industry standard microphones. Drums enjoyed 12 channels of Shure, Audix and Audiotechnica models, while further Audix and Shure products were used for guitars. Finally, lead vocals were captured by the powerful sound of a Sennheiser E945, with Shure Beta 58As covering the three backing vocal channels. All inputs and outputs benefited from the substantial processing in the Soundcraft Console, including compressors, gates, parametric and graphic EQs, as well as Lexicon Effects Processing, and all captured with great clarity by the Vi1 Mic Preamps in the MADI-connected Stage Box. We hope this is the start of a long and working relationship with Cenacle and BYFS, and we look forward to being back out on the road again soon! Now in its third year, the Women of God Conference continues to experience growth in both attendance and national recognition. And from the beginning, the organisers have turned to Revolution Audio to provide full audio and visual production services. This year’s event – entitled “Devoted” – employed the highest levels of production yet.
As the exclusive Audio and Visual partner to the conference venue – The GateWay in Yeovil – we utilised the in-house Nexo PS15/LS1200 FOH System, and Behringer X32 Digital Console. The system was supplemented by two of our own QSC K10 loudspeakers on frontfill duty, with individual EQ and time alignment performed across the entire system. On stage, the in-house Behringer P16 Personal Monitoring system was augmented by DB Technologies M10-2 and RCF Art 310A Wedge Monitors, again with full “ringing out” performed by Graphic Equalisation. A Neumann KMS105 was deployed for the vocals of New Wine worship leader Lauren Harris, with a Sennheiser E865 used for backing vocals. Audix, Rode, Shure and SE Electronics microphones were extensively used for instrument micing, alongside BSS AR-133 DI Boxes. Speakers at the conference were captured with tremendous clarity using a DPA 4066 headset capsule, attached to a Sennheiser EW300 G3 Wireless System. And finally, we supplanted the substantial processing already available on the X32 console with a superb DBX 160A analogue compressor. On the visuals side, we utilised the in-house lighting system, along with EasyWorship presentation software and a full HD Christie LHD700 Projector, operated by a separate engineer. Once again, the conference organisers were full of praise for the work of the Revolution Audio team, and a booking is already in our calendar for next year! Revolution Audio provides Audio Production for events of all types, sizes and budgets, and we are recognised as specialists in the field of Church events. We also provide Hire, Recording and Consultation services. To talk to us about your own requirements, just click Here. January is typically a quiet month for the live events industry, but once again Revolution Audio was kept busy with plenty of pre-production work ready for our third annual trip to Sexey’s School in Bruton, providing full audio production to their three-night performance of “Little Shop of Horrors”. Working on site for a week around a demanding rehearsal schedule, we built further on our reputation is the choice supplier in Somerset for school productions. Our commitment to excellence, service and value gave the full-house audiences a truly engaging and memorable experience every night, and once again proved out track record in delivering schools with solutions that exceed all expectations for education productions. Our Soundcraft SI Compact, with 32 In/16 Out CAT5 Stagebox once again formed the heart of the system, utilising 32 Inputs, 9 Buses, 2 Matrix Mixes and 3 Lexicon Effects Processors, all running through 66 fully independent audio automation cues. Our HK Projector system was supplemented on FOH duty by two QSC K10s acting as frontfiils, with individual time-alignment and equalisation applied. Even in what was an acoustically challenging school hall, the consistency is both level, quality and intelligibility at every point in the room was truly impressive. Stage monitoring was provided by our freshly refurbished DB Technologies M10-2 cabinets, as well as RCF Art 310As in the band area, with two further QSC K10s providing sidefill monitoring for the performers on stage. We have always committed to providing school shows – regardless of scale – with the very best in audio quality, and we know how crucial spoken and sung word clarity is to really form a connection with audiences. We deployed 7 DPA D:Fine headset systems - widely recognised as the absolute benchmark in headset microphones – to the cast, supplemented by an Sennheiser E945 capsule equipped handheld system, all running through 8 Sennheiser EW300 G3 wireless systems with full remote control over wired and wireless networks. Meanwhile, the band was captured by a wide variety of Shure, Audix and SE Electronics Microphones, as well as BSS DI Boxes. Finally, more minor acting roles were captured by 4 AKG CK31 capsules suspended from HM1000 hanging modules, providing a discrete and flexible solution. Each was run through individual BSS Graphic EQs on the FOH Console to extract maximum Gain Before Feedback. Finally, our friendly, professional crew once again excelled at building strong, approachable and light-hearted relationships with both staff and students throughout the week. We know that for school productions, the experience for students means just as much as the performance itself ,and our experience and understanding in this market, combined with our track record, makes us the natural choice in Somerset for school shows of all sizes and types. The inaugural "VDubs In The Valley" festival took place in the Shropshire town of Bridgnorth in September, bringing classic VW vehicles of all types to the riverside town. Launching with an expected attendance of 500, in the end 1250 people came through the gates. When the task of planning the technical solutions for the live music stage, organiser Garry Aulton turned to Revolution Audio. Despite being based in the south-west, we have worked in Bridgnorth on many occasions before, most recently providing full technical production for the town's carnival relaunch in 2013. So highly regarded was our work on this occasion, Garry knew he could trust Revolution Audio to deliver high quality, reliable solutions for his new festival. The event brought together artists from a large number of genres. Daniel Seth Trio, Savannah, Rhi Moore, Booyaka, Fortunate Sons, Cooper and Davies, Under The Fridge and The Coopers all entertained the enthusiastic crowd, and all were highly complimentary of the systems and crew provided by Revolution Audio. Production planning for the event - held in a picturesque riverside setting just outside of the town centre - began many weeks before the event, with detailed preparation performed by Joel Nichols and James Doney, FOH and Monitor Engineers for the event, to ensure maximum efficiency on the day of the event, where load in times and stage changeovers were extremely short. Our HK Audio Projector system was fulfilled its usual role as the FOH system, and despite the open space, the system performed excellently, giving clear, smooth coverage and plenty of level and detail, even in the more demanding low frequencies. Mixing was split between a Soundcraft Si Compact 32 at Front of House, and an Allen and Heath Qu-16 performing monitor mixing duties. A VDC 48-Way Split System was used to distribute the inputs between the two consoles, which were both equipped with CAT5 Digital Stageboxes. Stage Monitoring was provided by four RCF Art 310A cabinets, and three DB Technologies M10-2s. Sennheiser E945 and Shure Beta 58A vocal microphones were used alongside a large collection of instrument models from Shure, Audix and Audiotechnica. Revolution Audio also provided full power planning and distribution for the stage area. Organisers, artists and members of the public were all extremely complimentary on the quality of sound and efficiency of production new achieved, and we look forward to working further with the "VDubs In The Valley" team to help develop the event even further in years to come. Revolution Audio offers full Audio Production for events of all sizes and types, ranging from festivals like this to intimate acoustic nights. We also provide solutions for Corporate, Wedding and Worship customers. Equipment Hire, Live Recording and Consultation services are also offered. Fast-rising folk artist and FATEA Magazine's "Female Vocalist of the Year 2013" Ange Hardy has recently launched her brand new album "The Lament of The Black Sheep" in Minehead, after a surge of reviews hailing the album as one of the greatest the genre has seen in recent years.
Held at The Regal Theatre in the Somerset coastal town, Joel Nichols from Revolution Audio was asked to engineer Front of House for the event. The in-house PA system and Yamaha LS9 digital console were used, however Revolution Audio provided numerous items for use on stage, notably a DPA d:facto II for Ange's vocals, as well as a wireless Sennheiser E865, and large quantities of BSS DI Boxes. Supporting Ange were Steve Pledger, Lukas Drinkwater, Jemima Farey and Luke Jackson. The evening featured both solo performances from Ange as well as - for the first time - a live band accompanying her. Combined with Ange's creative use of loop pedals for vocal harmonys, The Regal was filled with a full, warm and brilliantly detailed sound that attracted numerous compliments from artists and audience members alike. Especially popular was the DPA d:facto microphone we provided - certainly an upgrade from Ange's regular Shure SM58! FATEA Magazine has written a full review on the evening here: www.fatea-records.co.uk/magazine/2014/AngeHardyLive.html To find out more about our services, including Production and Engineering, just Get In Touch with us. |
