As 2016 draws to a close here at Revolution Audio, our team are preparing to take a well-earned break over the festive period.

International Charity Kids Alive recently celebrated 100 years of work around the world in a glamorous ceremony in the UK, with full Lighting and Sound Production by Revolution Audio.
Tasked with transforming a standard 700 seat Auditorium into a memorable and attractive venue for band performances, speeches and a three-course meal, our creative team of designers and technicians worked closely with teams from Kids Alive as well as its UK Arm Hope For Kids to bring together an exceptional standard of production. Our Lighting Teams deployed a pair of Martin Mac 250 Entour moving head fixtures, each equipped with custom cut gobos of the Kids Alive logo, helping to bring the values of the event to the fore and creating an extremely high-end first impression. Further room lighting was achieved by six of Showtec's EventSpot 1900 Wireless LED Uplighters, controlled via Wireless DMX and providing a gentle bounce chase around the room. A key criteria was to eliminate the need for strip lights during the meal, in order to maintain a warm, intimate atmosphere. While not their natural habitat, four molefay blinders positioned on the main truss worked exceptionally well in this application, providing an even, soft and warm spread of light throughout the audience area. First impressions as guests entered the venue were also crucial, and to achieve this we deployed 40M of festoon lighting along the path from nearby car parks, and also uplit the outside of the venue using Showtec M800 LED Fixtures, set to Kids Alive's corporate colours. Once inside, further strip light usage was avoided by the deployment of dimmed Fresnel and Par Can fixtures inside the foyer area. On the Audio Front, we deployed a Midas M32 Stage Box to enhance the sound quality from the venue's in-house X32 Console and Nexo PS15 Front of House System. Touring Artist Joe Hardy provided live entertainment throughout the evening, with performances from his band expertly captured by a selection of Shure and Sennheiser microphones. Four-ways of Sennheiser G3 Wireless was deployed, as well as an AKG 747 Lectern Microphone. Also positioned on the Lectern was an Interspace MicroCue2 Clicker for rock-solid presentation control. The event was another shining example of Revolution Audio's proven track record of working closely with clients to develop solutions that exceed expectations time after time. Growing steadily over the nine years since its inception, it has never lost sight of its intimate feel, and this year organiser Nick Dolan turned to Revolution Audio to step up the production at his event to a new level. We were tasked with providing both Sound and Lighting over the three days of the event, and given the charitable nature of the event, it was critical for us to deliver high quality production-standards, but also represent high value for money. Audio systems began with deployment of our HK Audio Projector system for Front of House duties. Fresh from a service by our in-house team, Projector continues to be a valuable tool in our inventory, and for a system of its physical size, provides tremendous output and exceptional throw, ensuring clarity for all the audience even over a long distance. Mixing was performed by a Midas M32 with DL32 Stage Box, and in the interest of budgets, this console performed both Front of House and Monitor Mixing Roles. Six Wedge Mixes as well as IEM Feeds were sent to the stage, which featured loudspeakers from DB Technologies and QSC, as well as selection of microphones from our ever-growing inventory, including models from Sennheiser, Shure and Audix. Musicians and audience members alike were highly complimentary of both the sound quality, and also the attitude and personal attention offered by our teams on site. Lighting fixtures included a quarter of ETC Source 4 Junior Fixtures for general wash, with colour washes being achieved by Showtec's powerful M800 Tour LED Units. Effects lighting was split between Martin Mac 250 Entours, and Showtec Phantom 50 LEDs, with the latter being flown. A Unique 2.1 Hazer was also deployed. Finally, with control via Chamsys MagicQ software, we were able to vastly step up lighting from what EnFest's organisers have previously experienced, but at a very attractive cost. Established for over 25 years, the South Somerset Music Spectacular is one of the region’s best known educational performance events. Bringing together children from primary and secondary schools right across the area, the event now takes place over two evenings providing a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their talents.
With the closure last year of Westlands Leisure Complex, many local events have been forced to find alternative venues. And as one of the leading Audio and Visual providers in the area, Revolution Audio has seen significant growth as we expand our network of customers. As local event organisers have found new venues, our team of Production Managers and Engineers have committed to work closely with clients to help bring their event ideas to life through Audio, Lighting and Video. Audio systems, based around a Nexo PS15 FOH System and Midas DL32 Digital Console catered for a wide range of performances, ranging from simple vocal trios right through to orchestras, and everything in between. While the majority of performances were captured by a comprehensive overhead micing solution, we also deployed a wide variety of specialist microphones on either side of the stage (where we also provided full Pipe and Drape), as well as handy patch sheets and stage directions for Somerset Music’s Stage Crew to follow. All of this meant changeover times were kept to a minimum, sound quality was predictable and controllable, and the right microphones were always in the right place, at the right time. We worked with the client to design a flexible yet high-value lighting system to supplement that already installed in the venue. Working with a mixture of moving and static fixtures – most using LED technology – we were able to create a wide range of effects to keep performances engaging whilst still keeping within budgets for the client. We also provided Live Video Relay to the venue’s large screen, enabling all parents to clearly see their children on stage. For full details of the Technical Solutions deployed for this event, please read our in-depth Case Study. The event was another shining example of Revolution Audio’s ability to bring together all the technical elements required to bring a successful, cohesive event together, as well as our commitment to working closely with all our clients to meet and exceed their expectations. This year’s Music Spectacular has been described as a “roaring success”, and we look forward to working closely with the team for years to come. Revolution Audio has been the Production Partner for the Women of God Conference since 2013, and with the event continuing to grow in both scale and popularity, the event organisers have been focussed on continuously improving the Audio and Visual aspects of their event. And with Revolution Audio’s experienced and dedicated team on board, this was developed even further for the 2016 event. Based on the theme of “Shine”, we provided – for the first time at this event – Lighting and Video services in addition to Audio. With the event held at The GateWay venue in Yeovil, Somerset, we continued to utilise the existing speaker installation of Nexo PS15s with LS1200 sub-bass units, but this time also deployed a Midas M32 Digital Console from our own extensive inventory. Utilised in conjunction with a DL32 I/O Box and P16 Personal Monitoring System for the worship band, we ensured a tremendous level of sound quality, as well as minimising stage levels and providing touring worship leader Joe Hardy and his band with an ideal In Ear Monitoring solution. On the lighting side, we also provided additions to the venue’s in-house rig of generic fixtures, with the aim to provide a system that visually represented the conference theme of “Shine”, but also representing a very high value-for-money proposition. For Showtec Spectral M800 Tour LED Fixtures were deployed on stage, along with a set of Active Sunstrip Effect Units, firing through effectively-used haze created by a Unique 2.1 Unit. Existing generic fixtures in The GateWay were supplemented by a pair of ETC Source 4 Junior units for precisely lighting the two band vocalists. Control was achieved using a Chamsys MagicQ PC System. Finally we also provided full multi-camera recording of the teaching sessions in full 1080P HD, including full post-production as well as distribution. The full range of services provided for the event was a shining example of Revolution Audio’s success in the Worship Events sector, with our dedicated team committed to working closely with the event organisers to capture the heart behind any event. Hailed as “Shakespeare’s forgotten Rock & Roll masterpiece”, the energetic show entertained and delighted audiences over three nights, and as always our team was on hand to bring all the performances to life. Working with staff and students on site for over a week, we built on our established reputation in the theatrical market, combining high-end equipment with a flexible attitude and a determination to give the students the very best on-stage experience possible. The show was the maiden voyage for Revolution Audio’s new Midas M32 Digital Console and associated DL32 Stagebox. The console took the demanding technical specification of the show in its stride, amply handling the detailed cue lists and attention to sound quality from Revolution Audio’s Front of House Engineer Joel Nichols. HK Audio Projector was deployed as the main FOH System, supplemented by a pair of QSC K10 enclosures as Frontfills. Full Equalisation and Time Alignment was applied across the system to provide a superbly even and consistent sound across the listening area. Performers on stage were amply served by another pair of QSC K10s as Sidefills. Band members in the pit used a combination of compact wedge monitors, as well as in-ear monitoring. Those using the latter were impressed at the ability to control their own mixes using Midas’s M32-Q app, running on Android and iOS smartphones via a dedicated WiFi network. Wedge monitors consisted of DB Technologies FM12 and M10-2 cabinets. Cast members were captured by a superb collection of DPA D:Fine headsets; the true standard-setters in the industry for audio quality. These, combined with four handheld wireless microphones were attached to a comprehensive system of Sennheiser EW300 G3 components, all with full antenna distribution and remotely monitored over both wired and wireless networks. Sound quality overall was truly outstanding, and we received many compliments on the studio-grade quality and clarity, especially for solo vocal performances, where both the Preamps and Effects of the M32 console proved truly outstanding. Four AKG CK31 microphones, attached to discrete HM1000 Hanging Modules were also deployed for group vocal performances. Each was run through an individual 31-Band Graphic EQ on the console to achieve superb gain-before-feedback levels. Finally, our friendly, professional crew once again excelled at building strong, approachable and light-hearted relationships with both staff and students throughout the week. We know that for school productions, the experience for students means just as much as the performance itself, and our experience and understanding in this market, combined with our track record, makes us the natural choice in Somerset for school shows of all sizes and types. Hot on the heels of new investment in speaker systems, Revolution Audio are delighted to be taking delivery of a brand new Midas M32 system, consisting of a full size M32 surface, and DL32 Stage Box. This is a powerful addition to our Mixing Console Inventory and includes many exciting new features, applicable both now and into the future, thanks to Midas's AES50 Networking.
Featuring award-winning Midas Pro Series Microphone Preamps, the M32 has proved a great success since its release. Featuring comprehensive Local and Remote I/O Options, a large suite of onboard processing, and the option to integrate with systems such as Waves MultiRack, the M32 refines what can be expected of smaller-format digital mixers. As well as the surface, Revolution Audio have acquired the Dl32 Stagebox for connection via CA5 Cable. Again featuring Pro Series Microphone Preamps, this allows all Inputs and Outputs to be located on the stage and conveniently connected with a single cable, with a second port available for either a redundant main connection, or connection of other remote Stageboxes for distributed inputs. Commenting on the purchase, Joel Nichols - Owner and Director of Revolution Audio - said: "We have been looking at the M32 with interest since its release. Like many in the industry, we wanted to see the console perform in the market and the often harsh environment of live production to truly see it prove itself; having seen for ourselves both the build and sound quality, we are delighted to make this investment for the future, allowing us to enhance further our current offerings, and also giving flexibility and opportunities for the future. We would encourage all our Hire customers to take a look at the console to see its broad range of features - Come past our offices any time for a demo!" The system is available now in our Hire and Production stocks - Contact a member of our team to find out more.
